Sacha Bissonnette
ORP: What inspired you to begin writing or creating? Has that source of inspiration changed throughout your life?
Sacha Bissonnette: I was challenged to take it more seriously by my partner. To change how I think about writing and my relationship to it.
I'm often most inspired by other writers and I pull of lot of inspiration from film. I also had the opportunity to experience my first writing residencies last April and I find myself often reflecting on, and drawing from my time there.
ORP: What does success as a writer or artist mean to you?
SB: If I can keep finding the time to write, and if places are still interested in publishing what I'm writing, then I could call that a success.
ORP: Does writing or creating energize or exhaust you? What aspects of your artistic process would you consider the most challenging or rewarding?
SB: Writing 100% energizes me. I write mostly flash fiction and I write in small hour to four hour long bursts. These bursts can happen at any time, even in the middle of the night.
I love when a story comes together. When the puzzle pieces finally all fall into place and you have a kind of clarity of mind to see how it all connects.
I do not like super technical editing for continuity.
ORP: What books have you read many times?
SB: Le Petit Prince.
ORP: What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing or creating? What advice would you give to another writer or artist?
SB: Just sit down and write, the rest will figure itself out.
