Rick Lingo
Oyster River Pages: Why do you write and/or create?
Rick Lingo: Started doing photography to fill time in retirement. Never thought it would grow into a time-filling passion. (Perhaps at this point it is an obsession.)
ORP: What is the most challenging aspect of your artistic process?
RL: Time. As age creeps up (now 72 years old) the possibility of illness/infirmity causes one to consider how long the demands of travel can be overcome. Time. Too many places to go, so many things to see. Time. The volume produced by working digitally is nearly overwhelming.
ORP: What do you think is the best way to improve writing and/or artistic skills?
RL: Do it! Fill every gap in the day with improving yourself. In photography get out to take more pictures, upload the files on your computer, post-process. Watch online tutorials. Plunge into new techniques using update applications. Work, work, work!
ORP: Do you know more than one language? How does this influence your art and/or writing?
RL: Interesting question, one which applies more to writing that photography. A more appropriate question for a photographer would be: "Do you travel?" Travel (and education) are the two most significant influences on how one views the world. Pursue both avidly and one will not only increase their artistic skills but also generally become a more open, understanding person.
