Communications Coordinator

Oyster River Pages (ORP) seeks a volunteer to take on the role of Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator will work directly with the Managing Editor to promote the organization and its programs and publications through regular social media (Facebook and Instagram) and periodic email blasts (MailChimp).

This role will require approximately four to five hours or less of work per week. The Communication Coordinator’s role will include creating graphics; researching popular hashtags to increase awareness; crafting 25- to 100-word messages to expand awareness of ORP. The Communication Coordinator will also manage the content and publication schedule for ORP’s Contributor Showcase, which regularly profiles an ORP contributor.

Oyster River Pages publishes voices that speak to what it means to be alive in this world. We look for language and stories and images that move us out of ourselves and into other spaces. We actively seek to publish those who bring balance and diversity to historical institutions of power. We are committed to disseminating the voices of those who need to and must be heard—Brown and Black voices, Queer voices, decentered and marginalized voices whose words and images transcend ignorance and prejudice to reveal the nuanced, resilient, connective power of humanity.

General Overview of Duties:

  • Under the supervision of the Managing Editor, create a schedule of posts for the ORP social media channels to promote Contributor Showcase, new issues and opportunities, and ORP published content.

  • Create graphics via Canva for social media posts.

  • Have a basic understanding of hashtags and other methods to increase reach and exposure.

  • Report Meta Insights statistics to the Managing Editor monthly.

  • Communicate with ORP team members via Slack in a reasonable and timely fashion.

  • Attend monthly virtual ORP team meetings (via Google Meet).

Software Used:

  • Google Suite (Docs, Drive, Meet, etc.)

  • Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and, very occasionally, LinkedIn)

  • Canva

  • Squarespace

Time Period: This is a 12-month appointment (January–December 2025) with the availability of an extension, consisting of 10-20 hours/month and flexible scheduling.
